The Edmonton Oilers Rookies extinguished the Calgary Flames Rookies by beating them 4-1 on Saturday. After beating the Winnipeg Jets Rookies on Friday, the Oilers Rookies turned in another strong performance against the provincial rivals. Once again, I’ve chosen my three stars for the Oilers from this game.

3. Noah Philp – Philp continued his strong play this weekend. He streaked down the left wing and sniped a goal from the left half wall. He was strong positionally once again. Philp is showing why the Oilers chose to take a chance on him. He’s a big, right-handed centre that has a level of maturity to his game. He’s older and stronger than a lot of the young prospects at this camp. I’ll be interested to see how he fares at the main camp.
2. James Hamblin – Hamblin contributed a goal and an assist Saturday night. He used his speed to create a chance on a beautiful passing play on the powerplay by circling up to the top of the zone and dropping it to his point man. He made a smart cross seam pass that just failed to connect with Dylan Holloway. He found a soft spot in the offensive zone and scored off a pass from Xavier Bourgault. He won a draw in his own zone and proceeded to rush the puck up the ice and dish it to Holloway who scored on the play. Hamblin appears to be picking up where he left off last season.
1. Dylan Holloway – I expected more from Holloway after Friday night’s game, and he delivered with two goals on Saturday night. He took a pass from Hamblin at the blue line, then cut in and toe dragged around a defender before ripping it short side on Flames goalie Dustin Wolf. He added an empty netter late in the third period. He used his speed more often than he did against the Jets. He played in all phases of the game. I’ll be looking for another strong outing from him against the Canucks rookies.
You can catch the final game of the 2022 Young Stars Classic for the Oilers on Monday at 3:30 p.m. MT when they take on the Vancouver Canucks Rookies.
