Call Outs, Standouts, and Shout Outs: Oilers End Drought at Amalie Arena
November 9, 2022Filling the Void After Kane’s Injury

Evander Kane was rushed to the hospital after his left wrist was lacerated by a skate blade during the second period of the Edmonton Oilers’ 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Kane sustained the injury when he was knocked to the ice by Philippe Myers while trying to exit the zone with the puck. Former Oiler Patrick Maroon, whose skate cut Kane’s wrist, was among the first to help get the stretcher across the ice surface and down the tunnel to the victors’ dressing room for Kane.
“When you look down and see that much blood, you know there’s something wrong,” said Maroon . “That’s obviously not normal, so the boys were really worried about him. We’re all thinking about Evander, and hopefully he’s okay, and it’s nothing too serious. You know, it’s a scary situation. Hopefully, he’s good right now.”
Per Sportsnet’s Gene Principe, General Manager Ken Holland confirmed that Kane was in stable condition and would require surgery, but that he would be alright. Head Coach Jay Woodcroft also mentioned that Kane was doing well despite the scary incident following the game.

“First and foremost, everyone on our team, in our organization, and probably most people in Edmonton are thinking about Evander Kane,” said Woodcroft during his post-game presser with Oilers TV on Tuesday. “When an accident like that happens on the ice, that’s where our first thought is. It’s never fun to see one of your teammates in that kind of position, but shout out to the great medical staff we have within our organization, and the people here at the arena that were quick to respond and make sure that he was okay. The news that I’ve received so far, is that he’s in a good spot and well taken care of.”
The 31-year-old has been a valuable member of the team since signing with the Oilers nearly 10 months ago. Kane has five goals and 13 points in 15 games this season. While the Oilers will certainly miss his presence on the ice, his health is most important.
There is no timeline for his return, but if Kane is placed on LTIR, then the Oilers will need to recall at least one, possibly two forwards from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
