Connor McDavid was named NHL Second Star of the Month for October on Tuesday.
The Oilers captain paced the NHL in points (16), power-play points (9), points per game average (2.29), multi-point games (6) and shots (39) in October. McDavid also ranks tied for second in the league in goals (7), tied for second in assists (9), second in power-play goals (4) and tied for second in power-play assists (5) through seven games.
McDavid led the Oilers to a 6-1-0 record (third-highest points percentage in the NHL at .857) and registered a point in all seven games he played in. The 24-year-old fell one point shy of equaling Wayne Gretzky’s franchise record for most consecutive multi-point games to start a season at seven in a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Still, McDavid had nine straight multi-point games on the road going back to last season.
Last month, he was named NHL Second Star of the Week for October 18-24 with three goals and eight points in three games. McDavid scored his 10th career NHL hat trick in a 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on October 16. That night, McDavid also recorded his 578th career NHL point, passing Doug Weight for the seventh-most points in franchise history.
Even more impressively, McDavid scored his 200th career NHL goal in a 5-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes on October 21. McDavid became the fourth-fastest player in franchise history to reach the 200-goal mark (411 games), behind only Gretzky (242 games), Jari Kurri (328 games) and Glenn Anderson (348 games).
