The Edmonton Oilers unveiled their jersey for the 2023 Heritage Classic on Tuesday. While the Oilers traditional colours remain the same, the crest design, stripes and shoulder yoke pays homage to the Edmonton Mercurys jersey from the early 1950s. In addition, the crest will include each player’s number in the oil drop.
“The Oilers’ NHL Heritage Class look is inspired by the historic Edmonton Mercurys team that won gold in the 1952 Olympics. The Colours feature Oilers Orange and Royal Blue complemented by Vintage White evoking aged embellishments and textiles of Vintage uniforms. The crest is layered felt with “Heritage” top stitch. Leather looking pants and gloves recall hockey gear from yesteryear. “Battle of Alberta” emblazons the inside back neck in tribute to the celebrated rivalry.” – edmontonoilers.com staff
In the 2003 Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, the Oilers wore their classic royal blue uniforms for the first time since the 1995-96 season. In the 2016 Heritage Classic at IG Field in Winnipeg, the Oilers wore their WHA-inspired orange alternate jersey. So, this is the first time the Oilers have created an entirely new jersey for an outdoor game.

Per Edmonton Sports Talk’s Tom Gazzola, the Oilers will wear their Heritage Classic jersey several more times at Rogers Place this season. It will be the Oilers’ fourth jersey in 2023-24, along with their royal blue and white home and away set and navy blue alternate.
The Oilers will host the 20th anniversary of the inaugural Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium against the Calgary Flames on October 29.
