Connor McDavid’s 2025-26 season will potentially see him reach significant individual career milestones for goals, assists, AND points.
The Edmonton Oilers superstar enters this year with regular season totals of 361 goals and 721 assists, which means he could get to BOTH 400 career goals and 800 career assists during this campaign.
To do that, the speedy centre would need to score 39 goals and 79 assists, which are both realistic totals for him. Over the last three seasons, Edmonton’s captain has averaged 44.5 goals and 95.8 assists per 82 games, which are obviously more than enough to get him there.
Even more interestingly, if he maintains that same three-season pace, he’d score his 39th goal around game 71, and record his 79th assist around game 68. So not only is it possible McDavid will get to 400 goals and 800 assists in the same season, but it’s also very possible he could accomplish both in the same GAME.
The other incredible thing on the list of incredible things to watch for with McDavid is his career points total. To date in his career, the electrifying McDavid has amassed 1,082 regular season points, which means he’s only 18 points away from 1,100. Over the last three years he’s averaged 1.71 points per game meaning he should pass 1,100 around game 11; so barring some absurdly extreme misfortune, surpassing that mark this year is a mathematical certainty.
But something even more special could be in store for McDavid this season. IF McDavid achieves even just his bare minimum desired 2025-26 stat line of 39 goals and 79 assists, that would mean a total of 118 points, an 82-game pace he’s more than maintained for each of the past seven seasons. 1,082 points plus 118 more would give him 1200 total.

Imagine a player reaching career totals of 400 goals, 800 assists, and both 1,100 points and 1,200 points, all in the same 82-game schedule. If that wasn’t enough, at the aforementioned pace of 1.71 points per game, the generational talent would get his 118th point of the season, or career point 1,200, around game 70.
So in true Hollywood fashion, it’s conceivable McDavid could score his 400th career goal, record his 800th career assist, AND his 1,200th career point, all in the same game. Maybe even the same period!
As luck would have it, games 68 through 71 on the 2025-26 Edmonton Oilers schedule are a four game home stand against the Nashville Predators (March 15th), the San Jose Sharks (March 17th), the Florida Panthers (March 19th), and the Tampa Bay Lightning (March 21st).
Accomplishing all that, on home ice in front of the Oilers faithful, would truly be some McDavid magic.
McDavid recorded his 1000th career NHL point at against the Predators at Rogers Place on November 14, 2024, so it would be something if he was to record point 1200 at home against the Predators as well.

There are three active players that are closer to reaching 1200 career points than McDavid is currently.
Steven Stamkos needs just ten points to reach that plateau, so he should get there early in the coming season.
At 152nd in career goals with 361, 57th in assists, and 71st in all-time in career points with 1,082, Claude Giroux would need 84 points to reach 1200. That is something he’s accomplished only four times in his career, the last time being 2018-19.
John Tavares needs 86 points to reach 1200 for his career. He’s only done that twice with the last time also being back in 2018-19, although he has reached at least 80 points in a season five times.
If he stays healthy, it’s likely that McDavid will reach 1200 points before Giroux and Tavares do.
