Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid was named NHL Second Star of the Month for February on Friday.
McDavid led the league in assists (25) and points (27), even-strength assists (17), even-strength points (19) and multi-assist games (9) in 12 games in February. The 27-year-old tallied a point in 11 of 12 games last month, and factored in on 61.3% of the Oilers’ 44 team goals. His 25 assists were also the second-most in the month of February in NHL history, behind only Wayne Gretzky (26) in 1985-86.
The Oilers captain ended the month on a 10-game assist streak, including six consecutive multi-assist games. He also became the first NHL player to record 23 assists in a 10-game span since Mario Lemieux in 1992-93. McDavid now leads the NHL in assists this season with 72, which would be good for 12th in the league in points if he hadn’t scored a single goal.
Playing in his seventh NHL All-Star Game, McDavid had one goal and three points as Team McDavid defeated Team MacKinnon 4-3 in the semi-final and lost to Team Matthews 7-4 in the final of the 3-on-3 tournament. In the 2024 NHL All-Star Skills Competition, McDavid won four of the six events he competed in to claim the $1 million prize.
